7 Steps That Prepare You For The Job Interview Process

Although it can be a challenge to even receive a call back from a job application, the real work begins with the comprehensive interview. Recruiters use the interview process to identify your strengths and weaknesses that apply to the position at hand. Only after the recruiter determines that you are a good fit for the position will you receive a job offer. Even if you are a perfect match on paper, you must appropriately demonstrate your abilities at the interview to sway the recruiter. Here are seven steps that will prepare you to ace the interview for your next job.

1. Research The Company

You should be able to exhibit a strong working knowledge of the company's history, methods and purpose to display your interest in the position. In addition, interviewers expect you to ask questions about the company before ending the meeting. People who know the company inside and out have the best chance at obtaining a position there. Look up the company's official website and go through each page in detail. Also, look up news articles and press releases about the company to gain a wider perspective.

2. Memorize The Job Duties

In addition to being a great match for the position, you should understand all of the required job duties mentioned in the listing. That way, if the interviewer mentions additional duties, you can address the discrepancies right there. Match up the job duties to skills listed on the resume, so you can share why you are a good candidate for the position. Pay close attention to education and experience requirements to make sure you are the best candidate possible for the company.

3. Look Over Your Resume

Although you may easily recall your background to figure out if you are a good match for the position, it is difficult to relay that information to the recruiter without documentation. Make sure your resume reflects your entire career history and skill set to present yourself in the best light. You can also tweak your resume with some of the buzzwords found on the job listing to catch the reviewer's eye. Bring two copies of your resume to the interview. You definitely do not want to be late to the interview, as that would make a terrible impression on the recruiter. Practice the drive over to the office while timing yourself to see when you should leave the house.

7. Arrive Early

After considering drive times, it is important to leave even earlier than determined to arrive well before the scheduled time slot. After all, you may need to fill out a job application before the interview despite sending your resume over. You may also need to figure out where to meet the interviewer or sign into the system with help from the receptionist.
